Yogi Berra “personified the American dream” and was a champion for “every single one of” his 90 years on Earth, loved ones said at his funeral services Tuesday.
Police barricades ringed the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Montclair and a Navy color guard stood outside as Berra’s family honored the Yankees legend who died a week ago.
Berra’s longtime friend, ex-Yankees manager Joe Torre, said Berra was more than just an all-time great baseball player.
“Yeah, [he] won 10 World Series, three MVPs, all the stats, most World Series rings, you know managed both the Mets and Yankees to the World Series — but he was so much more than that,” Torre told mourners at the Tuesday service, led by Timothy Cardinal Dolan.
