Doubt creeps into Yankees world for first time all season

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Finally, some tension has pierced the serene veneer of Yankees universe.

It represents the proverbial pimple on an elephant’s derriere compared to what’s going on with the other New York baseball team. For these Yankees, though, who have shrugged off adversity the way Indiana Jones shrugged off a flamboyant swordsman in “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” there’s a little something going on here.

If DEFCON 5 represents a zero-level threat, let’s knock it down to a DEFCON 4.8.

A long Sunday at Tropicana Field concluded with the Yankees losing, 7-6 in 12 innings, to the Rays and, therefore, winding up on the wrong side of a sweep for the first time this season.
