Don’t expect Mark Teixeira’s return to be a cure

Mark Teixeira is expected back in the Yankees’ lineup on Saturday after missing three weeks with torn cartilage in his knee.

Normally, the return of a slugging first baseman to the heart of the batting order would be a reason to be optimistic that the offense, which has been sluggish for most of the season, would be rejuvenated.
But with Teixeira, it’s hardly that simple.

The 36-year-old, who went 0-for-4 in his third-and-final rehab game for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday night, has said his knee feels good and he’s pleased with his approach at the plate. He told reporters after SWB’s game Thursday he plans to be in the lineup Saturday.
