BALTIMORE — Talk that Gary Denbo recently turned down a five-year extension from the Yankees isn’t true, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
When that rumor circulated, other teams assumed Denbo would be joining baseball head Derek Jeter in some capacity with the Marlins after MLB owners approve the sale of the club.
Nevertheless, that offer wasn’t made to Denbo, who has known Jeter since 1992 when he managed the future Hall of Famer in the Gulf Coast League, and has been the Yankees’ vice president of player development for the past three seasons.
