When the Yankees held their end-of-season press conference last week, they dropped a lot of news. There was the seismic announcement that Didi Gregorius requires Tommy John surgery and will miss a significant chunk of the 2019 season. Plus, Brian Cashman made it explicitly clear that he’s working to trade Sonny Gray. Those stories obviously dominated the headlines around here.
Lost in the shuffle, however, was a note on the coaching staff. The club confirmed reports that the entire 2018 coaching staff would remain on board for next season. Most notably, Aaron Boone continues his run as skipper, Larry Rothschild sticks as pitching coach, and Marcus Thames stays in his position as hitting coach.
