Derek Jeter chose to congratulate a former teammate on his momentous day Sunday — that person just wasn’t Alex Rodriguez.
The former Yankees captain was silent regarding A-Rod’s announcement that his time in The Bronx and possibly his career was coming to an end Friday, but did take the time to salute Ichiro on his 3,000th hit. Ichiro, who reached the milestone with a triple on Sunday, played three seasons with the Yankees from 2012-14.
“Congratulations to my friend and teammate Ichiro on joining the 3,000 hit club,” Jeter said in a statement released by the Yankees.
