Dallas Green, who managed the Philadelphia Phillies to their first World Series championship in 1980, died Wednesday. He was 82.
Green also managed the New York Yankees in 1989 and the New York Mets from 1993-96. He managed the Phillies for three seasons and had a career record of 454-478.
The Phillies issued a statement on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.
Green also was a player/coach in the Phillies' system. A hard-throwing right-hander, he was drafted by the club out of high school and ended up spending eight seasons in the major leagues beginning in 1960.
