SEATTLE -- The Yankees' bid for a season sweep of the Mariners fell short on Sunday afternoon. Robinson Cano drove home a tiebreaking run with a broken-bat fielder's choice grounder off Dellin Betances in the eighth inning, producing a 3-2 victory that marked New York's first loss to Seattle in six contests this year.
With the infield drawn in, shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria fielded the ball and whipped a throw home that was slightly wide to the first-base side. That allowed Mitch Haniger to swipe his left hand across home plate, just ahead of a tag from catcher Austin Romine.
