The trade deadline is over, the Yankees didn’t do anything, and they still could use some help. The August waiver deadline no longer exists, but teams can still make improvements in a couple of ways. Players who have been on minor league contracts all season and have not been called up to the majors at any point can still be traded. Additionally, any player with five-plus years of service time who is designated for assignment and clears waivers can refuse assignment and elect free agency.
