TAMPA — Clint Frazier believes one way to stay on the field this year is to become a better defensive outfielder.
Talking Friday about the concussion he suffered early in spring training last year when he fell and hit his head against the outfield wall in Bradenton, Frazier blamed it on his defensive shortcomings.
“That wouldn’t haven’t happened if I was better,’’ said Frazier, who admitted he broke back in the wrong manner.
The concussion limited Frazier to 15 big league games and 54 minor league games last year. Now, with Jacoby Ellsbury opening the season on the injured list, the 24-year-old Frazier has a chance to be part of the 25-man roster as an extra outfielder.
