The roster casualty of the Yankees’ Gerrit Cole signing is headed to the Midwest.
Chance Adams has been traded to the Kansas City Royals, the team announced on Monday, acquiring infielder Cristian Perez in the deal. The 25-year-old right-hander was designated for assignment by the Yankees last week to create a 40-man roster spot for Cole, who was unveiled at Yankee Stadium last Wednesday.
Once a promising prospect, Adams couldn’t break through in the majors with the Yankees. In 16 big-league appearances over the last two years, Adams has an 8.18 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 33 innings.
