Chance Adams eager to test post-surgery velo at Yankees camp

TAMPA, Fla. — Chance Adams hasn’t taken a peek just yet. But it’s coming.

The Yankees’ right-handed starter spent the offseason doing his usual workouts and throwing a few bullpen sessions. They did not involve looking at the radar gun to see where his fastball velocity stood.

That will come in spring training, though, as Adams arrived at the Yankees’ minor-league complex Tuesday for informal workouts ahead of pitchers and catchers officially reporting next Thursday.

More than a year removed from surgery to remove bone spurs from his right elbow, Adams still is trying to rediscover his pre-injury velocity, part of the repertoire that had him surging up the Yankees’ minor-league system and rated as one of their top prospects.
