Chalk, ejections: How to fix — not trash — MLB’s slide rules

Deep breath.

Really take one about the new slide rules at second base. I know it is easier to rage on Twitter or rant on cable. But deep breath so we have the time to take the “jerk” out of knee jerk.

I get it, there have been controversial plays — two notably that ended games — on the new slide rules and we must all react as if the Declaration of Independence has been rewritten and the Republic is about to fall.

Or how reaction went initially with instant replay and the home-plate collision adjustments before they became normalized parts of the game because rules were tinkered with and players adjusted.
