Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia, who landed on the disabled list Friday with a groin injury, leaned heavily on his wife and his mother while battling an alcohol problem last fall. He opened up to Steve Serby about it for a special Mother’s Day Q&A.
Q: What does Mother’s Day mean to you?
A: It means a lot. My parents got divorced, and my mom and I moved in with my grandmother — moved in with my aunt before that — and then we moved in with my grandmother, so I was raised by pretty much all women, two of my aunts, my mom and my grandmother.
