With Opening Day just two days away, CC Sabathia was still in Tampa on Tuesday, where he made a minor league start in another step in his comeback from offseason knee surgery that was slowed by his December heart scare.
The left-hander, who started six straight season openers for the Yankees from 2009-14, will remain in Florida and won’t be in The Bronx for the opener.
Despite the slow start to the season, which Sabathia has repeatedly said will be his last, he insisted he wasn’t bothered by the fact he wouldn’t be in New York.
