CARLSBAD, Calif. — Two offseasons ago, the Yankees passed on a trade for the White Sox’s Chris Sale.
“Thank God I didn’t do that, actually,” Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Tuesday at the general managers’ meetings, “because you’d be missing some serious components of our major league club right now that are under control. We wouldn’t have gotten anywhere if I did anything like that with the White Sox back then.”
Sale went to the Red Sox instead, of course, and the lefty has dominated the Yankees in their rivals’ uniform just as he used to do while with Chicago.
