Yankee starter Bryan Mitchell was hit in the face by a line drive off the bat of Eduardo Nunez in the top of the second inning and immediately left the game.
Mitchell, dropped into the Yankee rotation as a sixth starter to give the rest of the rotation an extra day of rest, was lying on the grass near the mound as Nunez’s ball bounced into center field. His cap came off and his glove flopped off his hand. One run scored on the play.
Mitchell, a 24-year-old righty, stood up and was examined by athletic trainers.
