Bryan Mitchell wasn't supposed to start Monday against the Twins.
The 24-year-old was filling in for CC Sabathia, who was scheduled to start Monday but was bumped to Tuesday night to give every member of the rotation extra rest.
Mitchell's night didn't last long as he was forced to leave the game after getting struck in the face with a line drive off the bat of Eduardo Nunez in the second inning.
Caleb Cotham came on to relieve Mitchell with the Yankees leading, 3-1.
