Brian McCann to miss ‘couple’ of games due to sore left knee

Brian McCann figures to be out at least two games with inflammation in his left MCL after feeling the knee stretch while blocking a Dellin Betances pitch during Tuesday’s win over the Red Sox.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said McCann would be available if he were needed, but he preferred to give the catcher a game or two off. McCann agreed.

“Right now I’m just hoping a couple days will knock it out and let it get a little more stable,” McCann said before Wednesday’s game. “And then we’ll be able to move forward.”

In the meantime, McCann said he doesn’t expect to swing before Friday’s series opener against the Blue Jays.
