Brian Cashman has given up on Sonny Gray

Modal Trigger

Sonny Gray Paul J. Bereswill

CARLSBAD, Calif. — He was a Vanderbilt star who seemed overwhelmed coming to an intense Northeast market as he failed to pitch well at home or within the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.

David Price overcame all of that in October to become a playoff hero and a Red Sox darling. Did that give Brian Cashman belief that former Vanderbilt star Sonny Gray — who has struggled at Yankee Stadium and within the Rivalry — could follow the same path?

“We are going to move him if we get the right deal because I don’t think it is going to work out in The Bronx,” Cashman told me Monday at the GM Meetings.
