MIAMI — Brett Gardner respects Pedro Martinez’s thoughts, but believes the Hall of Fame pitcher’s recent comments about the Yankees not displaying the energy of a winning team might have something to do with Martinez’s loyalties.
“The Yankees don’t seem to have the energy of a winning team. I understand some key players are injured, but they don’t seem to be hustling out there,’’ Martinez tweeted.
Gardner, the longest tenured Yankee, didn’t chastise Martinez for his feelings but did point out that the former Red Sox ace might have a soft spot for the Yankees’ blood rival, who lead the Yankees by nine games.
