BRADENTON, Fla. -- There's a simple reason why new Yankees third baseman Brandon Drury wasn't anointed the starter after GM Brian Cashman pulled the trigger on an early spring training trade just a few days ago:
A lot can change over a month-plus of Grapefruit League games.
A lot can change in a day ... or in a single plate appearance.
Exhibit A was on display Saturday when Drury was drilled in the left hand the second time he was up in his debut game with the Yankees, a 4-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on the strength of a three-run, ninth-inning homer by Billy McKinney.
