It took longer than anyone could have anticipated for Giancarlo Stanton to make an impact on the Yankees this season, but he delivered — twice — in a 7-5 win over the Astros on Saturday night in The Bronx.
Stanton’s year had been defined mostly by injuries and disappointment. He came back to the Yankees’ lineup on Tuesday following a rehab assignment after he suffered a torn left biceps, a strained left shoulder and a left calf strain over the span of two-plus months.
And he got off to a rough start again Saturday in his fourth game back, hitless in his first two at-bats.
