Boone: Yankees ‘dodged a bullet’ with Gary Sanchez calf cramp

ARLINGTON, Texas — Gary Sanchez texted Aaron Boone on Wednesday morning and told the Yankees manager the cramps in his right calf that forced him out of Tuesday night’s game had vanished to the point the catcher said he wanted to face the Rangers in the finale of a three-game series.

With Thursday dark on the Yankees’ schedule, Boone decided to play it safe and started Austin Romine behind the plate to work with CC Sabathia in what turned out to be an ugly 12-10 loss.

“I feel we dodged a bullet. He came out here and did some agility running work and checked OK,’’ Boone said.
