City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito on Tuesday blasted the Yankees for hiring leftie hurler Aroldis Chapman while he is under investigation for an alleged domestic violence incident against his girlfriend.
Mark-Viverito, whose district includes parts of the South Bronx near Yankee Stadium, said she is so upset about the trade that she is considering boycotting games next season.
“It’s very disturbing,” she said. “This was a wrong move.”
Speaking to reporters after the NYPD Police Academy graduation, she said, “We all want the Yankees to do well, but at the expense of what?”

The Yankees announced on Monday that the team had traded four minor league players to the Cincinnati Reds for Chapman, a bargain for one of the best closers in the league.
