The Yankees are making room for their future. They will promote Greg Bird, their No. 4-ranked prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, according to a report by YES Network. The club has not confirmed the report.
Bird, a left-handed-hitting first baseman and designated hitter, was batting .301 with a .500 slugging percentage in 34 games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The Yankees originally acquired Bird as a fifth-round selection in the 2011 MLB Draft, and he's been a career .282 hitter with 48 home runs in 347 games in the Minor Leagues. The 22-year-old has yet to make his big league debut, but he has done some damage against upper-level pitchers.
