The Yankees bullpen has provided a lights-out proposition almost nightly again and Dellin Betances, literally and figuratively, has been a big reason for the success.
The 6-foot-8 righty, blessed with a 100 mph incendiary device for a right arm, has been outstanding since surrendering a J.D. Martinez homer in a loss to the Red Sox on May 10. He retired the next three batters that day, and since that homer, in 14 ¹/u2083 innings, has allowed two hits and one run while striking out 23. That’s a 0.63 ERA and a ridiculous .045 opponent batting average.
“Even when I was giving up the runs, was probably the best I’ve felt in a long time,” said Betances who threw his third straight perfect inning Tuesday against the Nationals.
