BALTIMORE — With Brian McCann not starting for the third straight game due to a hyperextended left elbow, the last thing the Yankees needed to see was Austin Romine firing his glove to ground and grasping his left thumb after taking a warm-up slider from Aroldis Chapman before the home ninth inning Saturday night at Camden Yards.

“I was upset I let it happen,’’ said Romine, who underwent X-rays, which were negative. “It stung pretty good and when I looked down the [batting] glove was filling up with blood.
