David Weathers put the Yankees in another early hole this evening, staking the California Angels to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. However, it was all New York after that as they would come back to win 17-6.
Weathers didn’t even make it out of the first inning. Manager Joe Torre was forced to go to his bullpen early by bringing in Brian Boehringer, who restored some order by tossing five-and-one-thirds innings of scoreless ball. He then handed the ball over to Dave Pavlas and Bob Wickman, who allowed a run in the ninth.
The Yankee offense was sparked by homers from Paul O’Neill, Mariano Duncan and Jim Leyritz.
