DETROIT — It’s all relative, right?
Last August, the Mets paid Chris Young seven figures to go away, figuring they were better off giving their left-field starts to younger guys with more promise.
Now, on the 2015 Yankees, Young — in a status befitting his surname — is the younger guy with more promise.
The Yankees outlasted the scalding-hot Tigers, 5-2 Tuesday night at Comerica Park, evening their record at 7-7 and allowing the Mets, victorious in Flushing, to tie Detroit (and Kansas City) for baseball’s best record at 11-3.
They did so with manager Joe Girardi deploying an outfield of Young, Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner against Tigers southpaw Kyle Lobstein as Nathan Eovaldi picked up his first win as a Yankee.
