Three days later, he walked that back, citing the coronavirus pandemic occupying his time. The President said he hopes to have an opportunity later in the season to visit the Bronx. Earlier in the week, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. strongly criticized the Yankees for inviting the President. De Blasio, in particular, noted the hypocrisy in the team protesting systemic racism and police brutality on the field, then welcoming Trump to their home.
