For better or worse, it sounded as if the young righty wasn’t the favorite for the fifth spot in the Opening Day rotation, but Garcia has allowed just two earned runs across eight spring innings so far, striking out ten in the process. His main competition for the fifth slot, Domingo Germán, has also pitched very well, which means the Yankees could have a good problem as the season nears: multiple worthy options to take a spot in the rotation.
