Around the Empire: Yankees news - 1/5/18

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: I know Opening Day seems super far away, but that doesn’t stop us from talking about it. As of right now, the Yankees don’t have anyone penciled in for second or third base, which is good news for top prospect Gleyber Torres. With no Chase Headley or Starlin Castro blocking him, Torres has a good shot of making the Opening Day roster. One obstacle would be if the Yankees want to start him in the minors to manipulate his service time.

New York Post | Joel Sherman: It’s not just Gleyber Torres who could make the Opening Day roster, but Miguel Andujar as well.
