Aroldis Chapman played with and against Yulieski Gourriel in Cuba, and says the free-agent infielder’s game will translate to success when he signs with a major league team.
“This is a veteran player with a lot of experience,’’ Chapman said of his teammate on the Cuban National Team in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. “This is not a rookie. He has all the qualities needed to be a good player at this level.’’
According to several industry members involved in the international market, the Yankees have an interest in the 32-year-old Gourriel. What he will cost depends on how many teams are involved and what their needs are.
