The ailing Red Sox had seen enough.
Not even halfway through the first game of a Saturday doubleheader between the Red Sox and Yankees in The Bronx, Boston manager Alex Cora and starting pitcher Chris Sale were ejected.
The Yankees had just taken a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning when Cora came out of a huddle on the mound and yelled at home-plate umpire Mike Estabrook for his questionable strike zone. Breyvic Valera had just capitalized on a bases-loaded situation with a single to right, scoring Edwin Encarnacion, as the Yankees’ bats began to heat up.
