The most scrutinized person on the field Tuesday night for Game 4 of the ALDS wasn’t wearing a Yankees or Red Sox uniform.
A night after becoming a punch line for his three blown calls at first base that were overturned by replay, Angel Hernandez returned to Yankee Stadium in the most visible spot imaginable for an umpire: behind home plate.
Before the game, Red Sox manager Alex Cora was asked if he would try to influence Hernandez’s strike zone.
“I have the upper hand because I’m bilingual and the umpire behind the plate is too,” Cora said jokingly.
