The Phillies came to the Winter Meetings open to spending “stupid” money, per their owner, but started their week in Las Vegas with a smaller bet.
They signed outfielder Andrew McCutchen to a three-year deal worth $50 million on Tuesday, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed. The contract includes a club option for a fourth year, The Athletic reported.
Acquiring the veteran McCutchen, who finished last season with the Yankees, is not expected to keep the Phillies out of the sweepstakes for Bryce Harper, and they are also thought to be high on Manny Machado.
