In light of Monday’s startlingly terrible news about Gleyber Torres, the Yankees’ approach to third base gets simplified.
It’s Chase, or chase.
If Chase Headley can’t continue his recent push into respectability, and if the Yankees stay afloat in the playoff race despite such theoretical incompetence from the hot corner, then they’re probably going to have to hit the trade market to repair that blown tire. Which hurts, because the Yankees thought they possessed an in-house upgrade in Torres.
Torres’ season-ending torn UCL in his left elbow, diagnosed Monday in the wake of a violent play at the plate Saturday, goes down as a double-whammy for the Yankees, who will try to end a six-game losing streak when they take on the Angels on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.
