TORONTO -- The way the New York Yankees use Dellin Betances is a sabermatrician's dream. Manager Joe Girardi never waits until its Betances' prescribed inning, but instead uses the 6-foot-8 two-time All-Star to erase potential problems in high-leverage situations, whenever that may be and many times before they have fully developed.
That is what Girardi did on Tuesday night in the seventh. With two outs and a man on first, Girardi handed the ball to Betances to take care of Blue Jays' No. 3 hitter, Jose Bautista.
This has not been a favorable matchup for Betances before Tuesday.
