Alex Cora ejected as Yankees-Red Sox fireworks start early

BOSTON — It didn’t take long for the fireworks to start at Fenway Park on Friday.

After Brett Gardner was plunked on an 0-2 pitch by Rick Porcello to lead off the game, Luis Severino answered by buzzing Mookie Betts with a fastball high and inside with his first pitch of the game.

The pitch resulted in warnings being issued to both benches by first base umpire Phil Cuzzi. That decision set off Boston manager Alex Cora, who charged at home plate umpire Adam Hamari and was ejected.

Once play resumed, the Red Sox continued their dominance over the Yankees over the last two days.
