Aaron Hicks takes a baby step toward his Yankees return

Aaron Hicks hit off a tee and threw on the field before the Yankees’ 8-0 win over the Red Sox on Tuesday night at the Stadium, but before he can think about playing minor league games on a rehab assignment, the switch-hitting center fielder needs to take batting practice.

Out since early in spring training with a lower left back strain that has required cortisone injections. Hicks said he expects to start BP “[Wednesday] or the next day.’’

Originally the plan was for Hicks to head back to Tampa after a weekend visit to The Bronx.
