Brandon Drury made his second start at first base since getting called up on Friday. Both have come against left-handers, but that doesn’t mean there will be a platoon at first between Drury and Greg Bird. Boone said he plans to get Drury spot starts at first, third and designated hitter, but doesn’t expect to turn Bird into a part-time player, despite his struggles.
“We really want to get ‘Birdie’ going because of what he means to our lineup when he’s good, and when he is going good, he handled lefties really well,” manager Aaron Boone said before the Yankees’ 8-5 win over the Braves Tuesday night at the Stadium.
