DETROIT -- Another chilly night of baseball for the Yankees became extra exciting in the second inning of Friday’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers when Aaron Hicks hit a bomb to right-center field that somehow didn’t clear the wall at spacious Comerica Park.
A fortuitous carom led to the Yankees’ first inside-the-park homer in seven years and a quick 2-0 lead in what would become an 8-6 victory.
“It did kick in some energy in a big-time way in our dugout on a cold night like that,” manager Aaron Boone said.
