6 Yankees things to know Sunday: Praise for Gary Sanchez, Dellin Betances' bloody finger

NEW YORK — There was a lot going on at Yankee Stadium on Saturday before and during the Yankees’ 2-1 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Former MVP Andrew McCutchen joined the Yankees in the morning, then hit leadoff and played right field in his debut game.

Shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, who was traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Yankees late Friday night, first heard about the deal after midnight. He was up early Saturday morning for a flight from Atlanta to New York and arrived at Yankee Stadium two hours before the 4:05 first pitch, then played short in the ninth inning.
