For the time being, it appears Aroldis Chapman’s demotion out of the closer role is over after two weeks.
Two very good recent outings by Chapman plus a blown save by Dellin Betances last Tuesday night in Baltimore led to Girardi deciding to go back to what had been status quo for most of the last two seasons … Chapman closing and Betances setting up, although now the Yankees have a third closer option in David Robertson.
“I’m hoping to lock (the closer role) down to one guy,” Girardi said. “I think it’s important that we try one guy to do that.
