LOS ANGELES — The anniversary passed in silence, because we don’t often commemorate anniversaries when the home team loses, no matter how heroic. In that way, we’re all like YES or SNY, forever broadcasting classic games involving the Yankees and the Mets, but only the classics with happy endings.
I didn’t let it pass. That 1995 ALDS series between the Yankees and the Mariners was a seminal moment for me, the very first time I was afforded the privilege of covering a baseball playoff series. I’ve done so, so many since, and still feel as lucky as I did then, when I still was in my 20s and still feeling like I was getting away with something getting paid to write about all of it.
