The start of spring training will be here in less than a month and the Yankees’ offseason business still seems far from over.

The Yankees need to figure out they’re going to do about third base and second base with Chase Headley, Todd Frazier and Starlin Castro gone, and they’d like to add another veteran starter to their rotation.

All the while, GM Brian Cashman is under orders from managing partner Hal Steinbrenner to hit a reset on their luxury tax penalty by keeping the payroll under this year’s payroll threshold, $197 million. As of now, they’re only about $23 million under, and they’ll probably want to open the season around $10 million under so that they can add a piece in season without giving anything up, if necessary.
