The once-close relationship between Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez had soured during their time with the New York Yankees, but it appeared they had buried the hatchet when they did a joint interview with CNBC last week.
However, that does seem to be the case. At all.
On his radio show, ESPN's Dan Le Batard said that Jeter was "beside himself angry" when he found out he was doing in the interview with Rodriguez, which he didn't discover until just before the interview.
"I actually learned, factually, that Jeter was beside himself angry at that interview he had to do with Alex Rodriguez, first and foremost, because nobody told him he'd have to be sitting there next to Alex Rodriguez," Le Batard said.
The two actually talked about their history in the interview, which turned out to be extremely awkward all the way around.
A-Rod and Jeter were close during the early stages of their career as two of the best young players. However, their problems started in 2001 following an interview were Rodriguez criticized Jeter.
"Jeter's been blessed with great talent around him," Rodriguez said at the time. "He's never had to lead. You go into New York, you wanna stop Bernie [Williams] and [Paul] O'Neill. You never say, 'Don't let Derek beat you.' He's never your concern."
The two ended up playing 11 seasons together with the Yankees, and Rodriguez said the two had a "good working relationship." It seems as though that relationship didn't extend beyond the playing field - and still doesn't.
