The MLB trade deadline of August 1st is rapidly approaching, and the trade rumors around the New York Yankees are starting to heat up. The Yankees are 49-48, but are several games back of a Wild Card berth. The Yankees are expected be sellers at the deadline, and could starting dealing very soon. With that in mind, here all the latest Yankees trade rumors you need to know.
Yankees Close To Dealing Chapman?
The Yankees could be close to dealing closer Aroldis Chapman.
Sources: Chapman trade not necessarily imminent. But #Yankees ready to bring process to conclusion.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) July 24, 2016
The New York Post reported late last night that the Cubs, Nationals, Indians and a mystery team (plus the Giants) were all in the running. However, the Nationals have fallen behind, reports Jon Heyman (or maybe not). The Giants appear out of the running. That leaves the Cubs, Indians and the always-intriguing mystery team as the top contenders. The Dodgers had chased Chapman, per Ken Rosenthal, so perhaps they're Heyman's mystery team. The Indians might be the favorites right now.
With Chapman's contract set to expire after this year, the Yankees are committed to moving him as a rental. They might even be able to get more than they gave up for him.
Miller Staying?
While Chapman seems like a goner, lefty reliever Andrew Miller might be staying.
Sources: #Yankees telling clubs that they are close to trading Chapman and will hold Miller.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) July 24, 2016
Miller has drawn almost as much interest as Chapman, and given that Miller is under team control through 2018, some teams actually prefer him. But barring a massive trade offer, the Yankees seem inclined to keep him.
Blue Jays Interested In C.C. Sabathia?
At $25 million this year (and a $25 million vesting option next year), Sabathia hasn't been linked to many trade rumors. However, Jon Heyman reports the Blue Jays are looking at him. The Blue Jays scouted Sabathia, so there's at least some level of interest. While Sabathia has pitched well at times this year (he has a 4.04 ERA), his contract makes him tough to trade. Any deal would likely require the Yankees to pick up the bulk of his remaining salary.
