In today's Yankees rumors and news update, the New York Yankees have made an initial inquiry to the Chicago White Sox in regards to Chicago starting pitcher John Danks.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, "there is no evidence the sides are close to a deal and may be in only the early stages of talks. The White Sox are looking for young players and prospects as they continue their rebuild."
The Yankees have already lost four starting pitchers to injury this year, and are looking for an additional upgrade to their rotation after acquiring Brandon McCarthy earlier this month.
The 29-year-old Danks has had an up-and-down 2014 campaign, posting a 4.35 ERA. However, the Yankees currently have no lefties in their starting rotation after CC Sabathia's season-ending injury and the trade of Vidal Nuno. Adding Danks would help to diversify the rotation while adding a pitcher who still has a lot of potential.
Danks is currently owed $34 million through 2016 with a $14.25 million base salary for this season.
